Microsoft Windows XP With Service Pack 2
A Windows XP computer serving as a NetHASP License Manager may lose
the ability to broadcast GTX software licenses after an installation of
Windows XP Service Pack 2. The following instructions step through the
process of modifying the Windows Firewall to overcome restrictions imposed
by the service pack installation. The need for the firewall change is
evident when, after the service pack 2 installation on the License Server,
a GTX client computer displays one of the following alert messages while
starting the GTX program.

Solution
To begin, access the Windows Security Center from the Start button >
Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Security Center on the
Windows XP desktop. From the Security Center window select Windows Firewall.

Click above image for a full view
The Windows Firewall may be disabled completely when the Off selection
is marked. Continue with this lesson if Off is not the desired state of
security.

The Exceptions tab will reveal an Add Port control which this lesson will refer to in the following steps.
Port 475 must be open as a firewall exception for the NetHASP to communicate
with GTX client computer software. To begin, click on the Add Port button.

For confirmation that Port 475 is safe to have open through the firewall
you may perform an internet search for the following phrase "Well-Known
IP Ports". Included among the responses will be lists of port number
definitions which may be used to confirm that Port 475 is registered for
the use of the NetHASP license service, for example:
| tcpnethaspsrv | 475/tcp |
| tcpnethaspsrv | 475/udp |
In the Add a Port settings window, which was opened by the previous
step of this lesson, enter the following information.
Type 475 as the Port number and check the TCP selection. The Name value
may vary from the example.
Select OK.

Once again click the Add Port control of the Windows Firewall and enter
the following to the Add a Port settings window.
Type 475 as the Port number and check the UDP selection.
The Name value may vary from the example. Select OK.

The modifications to the Windows Firewall are now complete. The Exceptions
tab should display the names used during the previous Add a Port processes.
Close the Windows Firewall and Security Center to test the NetHASP License
distribution.
